Prestige Property Management NW Ltd (PPM) have a duty to ensure the safety and welfare of their employees.

Definition of Physical or Verbal Abuse

The Health and Safety Executive’s definition of work-related violence includes verbal abuse and threats as well as physical attacks, and employers have a legal responsibility to reduce the risk of any form of violence to staff.

In the context of PPM Policy, physical and verbal abuse also includes:

  1. unreasonable and/or offensive behaviour
  2. harassment
  3. threatening behaviour (e.g. non-verbal insults or indicators such as gestures or “squaring-up” without physical contact etc.)
  4. assault including battery
  5. attacks on or damage to property belonging to the employee (or PPM Property, where the employee is present or is made to feel threatened).
  6. PPM seeks to ensure that it takes all reasonably practicable steps to control, reduce or eliminate the incidence of:
  • physical or verbal abuse of its employees, including racial and sexual harassment
  • unwanted advances and attention commonly referred to as stalking
  • assaults upon employees by clients, contractors or members of the public which is as a result of their employment by PPM
  • attacks on or damage to the property of PPM employees which result from their employment

PPM considers abusive or aggressive behaviour, verbal or physical, to any member of staff to be unacceptable. All incidents are reported to the Manager.

Where there is serious or persistent misbehaviour it can result in PPM involving outside agencies such as the police.
